Lionel began racing tough trucks during the 2001 season, in an old 1986 Chevy Blazer. He enjoyed the sport and decided to build a lighter truck that would perform better. In 2004 he started racing his new Chevy S10 Extended Cab. By the end of the season, he picked up Rancho as a sponsor and a new team mate, Jason Makuch, driving the Dynomax Ford. During the 2005 season, Lionel strived really hard to bring home a championship, but finished the Special Events series in 2 nd place. His luck changed in 2006 and he was able to bring home the USHRA Championship, with team mate Jason Makuch trailing close in 2 nd place.
